Journo assaulted at JnU: Allegations against JCD activists

A journalist from Kaler Kantho has alleged that he was assaulted by members of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on the campus of Jagannath University (JnU) while capturing videos of fighting between students.
The incident occurred around 4:00pm today near the university cafeteria.
The journalist, named Mohammad Junayed Sheikh, claimed that he was recording a fight between students of the English and Mathematics departments when a group of JCD activists attacked him and attempted to snatch his phone.
According to the eyewitness, the altercation initially broke out during a football match at Dhupkhola field but later spilled onto the campus, leading to further clashes.
CCTV footage reportedly shows Junayed recording the incident when JCD branch Office Secretary Parag Hossain intervened and tried to stop him. The footage also shows unidentified individuals assaulting him.
Describing the incident, Junayed said, “I was standing near the sculpture square and noticed the fight near the cafeteria. When I started recording, a group of individuals questioned me and attempted to snatch my phone. They also physically assaulted me despite my identifying myself as a journalist. They backed off only after I repeatedly stated my profession.”
In response, Parag Hossain said, “I tried to stop the attack by pushing people away. Students from the Mathematics department were involved in the scuffle.”
Asaduzzaman Aslam, president of the JnU JCD, condemned the incident, saying, “I was not present at the time, but we strongly condemn any attack on journalists or students. If those responsible are identified, we will take strict organisational action.”
The university authorities have taken note of the incident.
Proctor Prof Dr Tajammul Haque stated, “We have received a complaint and will take appropriate action after conducting an investigation.”
